Not too long ago, Michael Pollan wrote an extraordinary book called the Omnivore’s Dilemma. And beside all the other wonderfully thought provoking content, the title really says it all. What are we going to eat? We could eat anything. Cows don’t have the same choice. Neither do carnivores. We are omnivores. We could eat anything. But what is best to eat?
Now, unfortunately, we’ve all been programmed to eat what billion dollar food companies want us to eat. We’ve all grown up with our neural network connected for us by catchy jingles and colorful packaging and constant reminders during half-time and in between our favorite shows. As research clearly shows, our brains get patterned by advertising whether we like it or not and whether we think it’s happening or not.
So, our food choices get pre-programmed for us and like Pavlov’s dogs, when our hunger pangs ring, then our brain immediately associates an image to that – often an image of a food we’ve seen advertised.
Then, as we realize that packaged, processed and fast food isn’t serving us well, we try dieting. But every diet book seems to contradict other diet books. And we end up on a yo-yo diet plan and usually end up feeling much worse for it. And then, we end up binging because we’re so frustrated with the diet book disasters.
There is a better way. I am here to tell you that like thousands of people, I have found the diet plan that works for me. And I am going to tell you how you can do it too. And I’ll give you a clue: It’s going to be a diet plan that works only for you and no-one else. You are a unique individual. NO diet book or diet plan will be your savior.
And that’s why people don’t get healthy and stay on yo-yo diets because they want a savior dietary plan. No, you will have to do some work to find the dietary plan that serves your unique physical being. And that’s where Health Coaching comes in. And that’s why Health Coaching is so valuable.
